Wandering: A Staged Reading

Yun Theatre is hosting a staged reading of Wandering, a new play by acclaimed playwright Max Yu, followed by a small reception where the audience can linger, reflect, and soak in the intricate emotions together.

Wandering traces the interwoven journeys of Fei, a young Chinese-American man, and his grandmother, Nainai, across two eras of Shanghai. Through parallel timelines, Fei’s return in 2019 and Nainai’s arrival as a child in 1940, the play explores family, political upheaval, and the search for belonging. As the past and present collide, Wandering invites us to reflect on identity, generational memory, and what it means to find our place in the world.

About the Playwright

Max Yu is a first-generation Chinese-American playwright whose work has been recognized by the Relentless Award, the O’Neill Playwriting Conference, and Atlantic Theater Company. His writing delves into identity, history, and cultural complexity, drawing from his experiences in both Shanghai and the U.S.

We welcome all who are curious, whether you’re familiar with the play or just intrigued by its themes. We hope you’ll stay after the reading to share your thoughts and connect with others.
