
This introductory acting class is designed for immigrant and multilingual participants, especially those for whom English is a second language. People who are Native English speakers are welcome as well.
The class focuses on presence and the fundamentals of acting.
Participants will explore acting techniques that emphasize intention, relationship, and listening over perfection. Accents and different rhythms of speech are welcomed as part of the work. The class will move toward an informal final showcase.
No prior acting experience is required. Participants should feel comfortable working primarily in English, but the class welcomes a range of language levels and cultural

Iveliz Martel is an actor, teaching artist, and journalist from Chile. She holds an MFA in Acting from the University of Washington School of Drama
and an MS in Science Journalism from Texas A&M University. Her local theatre credits include work with Seattle Children's Theatre, Seattle Shakespeare, Swim Pony, Global Works, Yun Theatre, Strawberry Jam, Walk Don’t Run Art Marathon, and eSe Teatro. She also created and performed her original clown solo show, Tutti Frutti, co-developed with Bradley Wrenn and staged at 18th & Union in Seattle and CoHo Theatre in Portland. Iveliz has taught at different schools in Seattle, including Freehold, UW School of Drama, Seattle Film Institute, Cornish College of the Arts, and she has led acting workshops and classes offered by theater companies such as Yun Theatre, Latino Theatre Projects, and Broadway Bound. She is also a vocal coach at the Jack Straw Cultural Center. Iveliz has built a career as a radio reporter in Chile and is a Fulbright alumna.
